Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Deep, dark purple bruise, pain, or swelling at the place of injection

Less common

  1. Bladder pain
  2. bleeding gums
  3. blood in the urine
  4. bloody or cloudy urine
  5. blurred vision
  6. chest pain
  7. chest tightness
  8. chills
  9. confusion
  10. cough
  11. coughing up blood
  12. difficulty with breathing or swallowing
  13. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  14. fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat
  15. fever
  16. frequent urge to urinate
  17. headache
  18. increased menstrual flow or vaginal bleeding
  19. lower back or side pain
  20. nosebleeds
  21. pain or burning while urinating
  22. painful or difficult urination
  23. pale skin
  24. palpitations
  25. paralysis
  26. pounding in the ears
  27. prolonged bleeding from cuts
  28. red or black, tarry stools
  29. red or dark brown urine
  30. severe or continuing dull nervousness
  31. shortness of breath
  32. skin rash
  33. sore throat
  34. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  35. sweating
  36. swollen glands
  37. troubled breathing, exertional
  38. unexplained pain, swelling, or discomfort, especially in the chest, abdomen or stomach, joints, or muscles
  39. unusual bleeding or bruising
  40. unusual tiredness or weakness
  41. vomiting of blood or material like coffee grounds

Rare

  1. Blue-green to black skin discoloration
  2. bowel or bladder dysfunction
  3. hives
  4. itching
  5. leg weakness
  6. numbness
  7. pain, redness, or sloughing of the skin at the place of injection
  8. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  9. wheezing

Incidence not known

  1. Abdominal or stomach pain
  2. accumulation of pus
  3. break in the skin, especially associated with blue-black discoloration, swelling, or drainage of fluid
  4. change in vision
  5. clay-colored stools
  6. collection of blood under the skin
  7. diarrhea
  8. excessive thirst
  9. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  10. hoarseness
  11. large, flat, blue or purplish patches in the skin
  12. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs
  13. loss of appetite
  14. muscle cramps
  15. numbness and tingling of the face, fingers, or toes
  16. pain in the arms, legs, or lower back, especially pain in the calves or heels upon exertion
  17. pain, redness, or swelling
  18. painful knees and ankles
  19. pale, bluish-colored, or cold hands or feet
  20. problems with vision or hearing
  21. raised, red swellings on the skin, buttocks, legs or ankles
  22. red or irritated eyes
  23. redness, tenderness, burning, blistering, or peeling of the skin (usually on the backs of arms and the fronts of legs, mouth, eyes, hands, or feet)
  24. seeing floating spots before the eyes
  25. swollen, red, or tender area of infection
  26. unpleasant breath odor
  27. weak or absent pulses in the legs
  28. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

Less common or rare

  1. Constipation
  2. nausea and vomiting
  3. prolonged, painful, or inappropriate erection of the penis
  4. trouble with sleeping

Incidence not known

  1. Hives or welts
  2. redness of the skin

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
