Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. bleeding gums
  3. bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  4. bloody urine
  5. blurred vision
  6. body aches or pain
  7. chest pain or tightness
  8. chills
  9. clay-colored stools
  10. confusion
  11. dark urine
  12. diarrhea
  13. difficulty breathing
  14. difficulty in moving
  15. dizziness
  16. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  17. dry mouth
  18. ear congestion
  19. fever
  20. flushed, dry skin
  21. fruit-like breath odor
  22. headache
  23. hoarseness
  24. increased cough
  25. increased hunger
  26. increased thirst
  27. increased urination
  28. itching, skin rash
  29. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or genitals
  30. loss of appetite
  31. loss of voice
  32. lower back or side pain
  33. muscle pain or stiffness
  34. nausea
  35. nervousness
  36. noisy breathing
  37. nosebleed
  38. pain in the joints
  39. pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
  40. painful or difficult urination
  41. pale skin
  42. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  43. pounding in the ears
  44. rapid weight gain
  45. slow or fast heartbeat
  46. sneezing
  47. sore throat
  48. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  49. stomach pain
  50. stuffy or runny nose
  51. swollen glands
  52. tingling of the hands or feet
  53. trouble breathing
  54. unexplained weight loss
  55. unpleasant breath odor
  56. unusual bleeding or bruising
  57. unusual tiredness or weakness
  58. unusual weight gain or loss
  59. vomiting
  60. vomiting of blood
  61. yellow eyes or skin

Less common

  1. Fear
  2. headache, severe and throbbing
  3. lack or loss of strength

Incidence not known

  1. Back pain
  2. blindness
  3. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  4. blue-yellow color blindness
  5. chest discomfort
  6. cough producing mucus
  7. decreased vision
  8. dilated neck veins
  9. drowsiness
  10. dry cough
  11. eye pain
  12. feeling of discomfort
  13. general feeling of discomfort, illness, or weakness
  14. high fever
  15. irregular breathing
  16. irregular heartbeat
  17. joint swelling
  18. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  19. red, irritated eyes
  20. redness, soreness, or itching skin
  21. seizures
  22. sores, welts, or blisters
  23. stomach pain or cramps
  24. swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Night sweats
  2. throat irritation

Less common

  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. belching
  3. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  4. feeling of warmth
  5. heartburn
  6. indigestion
  7. muscle cramps
  8. redness of the face, neck, arms, and occasionally, upper chest
  9. stomach discomfort or upset
