Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Absent, missed, or irregular menstrual periods
  2. bloating
  3. breast pain
  4. clear or bloody discharge from the nipple
  5. dimpling of the breast skin
  6. increased clear or white vaginal discharge
  7. inverted nipple longer or heavier menstrual periods
  8. lump in the breast or under the arm
  9. pain in the pelvis
  10. persistent crusting or scaling of the nipple
  11. redness or swelling of the breast
  12. sore on the skin of the breast that does not heal
  13. stomach or pelvic discomfort, aching, or heaviness
  14. stopping of menstrual bleeding

Incidence not known

  1. Abdominal or stomach pain
  2. anxiety
  3. blurred vision
  4. change in vaginal discharge
  5. chest pain
  6. chills
  7. clay-colored stools
  8. confusion
  9. cough
  10. dark urine
  11. diarrhea
  12. difficulty with swallowing
  13. dizziness or lightheadedness
  14. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  15. fainting
  16. fast heartbeat
  17. fever
  18. headache
  19. hives, itching, or rash
  20. loss of appetite
  21. nausea
  22. pain or feeling of pressure in the pelvis
  23. pain, redness, or swelling in the arm or leg
  24. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  25. sudden shortness of breath or troubled breathing
  26. sweating
  27. tenderness, pain, swelling, warmth, skin discoloration, and prominent superficial veins over affected area
  28. tightness in the chest
  29. trouble breathing
  30. unpleasant breath odor
  31. unusual tiredness or weakness
  32. vaginal bleeding
  33. vomiting of blood
  34. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Blemishes on the skin
  2. blistering, crusting, irritation, itching, or reddening of the skin
  3. cracked, dry, or scaly skin
  4. hair loss or thinning of the hair
  5. itching of the vagina or genital area
  6. pain at the insertion site
  7. pain during sexual intercourse
  8. pimples
  9. thick, white vaginal discharge with no odor or with a mild odor
  10. weight gain

Less common

  1. Discouragement
  2. feeling sad or empty
  3. irritability
  4. lack of appetite
  5. loss of interest or pleasure
  6. trouble concentrating
  7. trouble sleeping
  8. weight loss

Incidence not known

  1. Changes in menstrual or bleeding patterns
  2. white or brownish vaginal discharge
