Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Chills
  2. cough
  3. diarrhea
  4. fever
  5. hoarseness
  6. itching, skin rash
  7. lower back or side pain
  8. painful or difficult urination

Less common

  1. Bladder pain
  2. bloody or cloudy urine
  3. blurred vision
  4. body aches or pain
  5. chest pain, discomfort, or tightness
  6. confusion
  7. dark urine
  8. dizziness
  9. ear congestion
  10. fainting
  11. frequent urge to urinate
  12. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  13. headache
  14. light-colored stools
  15. lightheadedness
  16. loss of voice
  17. muscle or bone pain
  18. muscle weakness
  19. nausea
  20. nervousness
  21. pain, redness, swelling, tenderness, or warmth on the skin
  22. pale skin
  23. pounding in the ears
  24. rapid, shallow breathing
  25. runny or stuffy nose
  26. slow or fast heartbeat
  27. sneezing
  28. sore throat
  29. stiff neck or back
  30. thickening of bronchial secretions
  31. trouble breathing
  32. unusual bleeding or bruising
  33. unusual tiredness or weakness
  34. upper right stomach pain
  35. vomiting
  36. yellow eyes and skin

Rare

  1. Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  2. difficulty in moving
  3. joint or muscle pain
  4. muscle aches, cramps, or stiffness
  5. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  6. red, irritated eyes
  7. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  8. swollen glands
  9. swollen joints

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Abnormal or decreased touch sensation
  2. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", tingling, or painful feelings
  3. constipation
  4. decreased appetite
  5. loss or thinning of the hair
  6. trouble sleeping
  7. unsteadiness or awkwardness
  8. weakness in the arms, hands, legs, or feet
