Dr. Vergidis is an Infectious Disease specialist with expertise in Medical Mycology and infections in the immunocompromised host. He trained in Infectious Diseases at Boston Medical Center and Transplant Infectious Diseases at Mayo Clinic. He was on the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh and the National Aspergillosis Center at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom.

Dr. Vergidis is currently the Focus Group Chair of the Hematology-Oncology Infectious Disease Service. He is also the Outpatient Antimicrobial Stewardship Lead. He is a faculty member of the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (Clinical & Translational Science) and co-director of the Medical Microbiology course. He is the site principal investigator of several clinical trials on novel antifungal medications.

Dr. Vergidis serves on the Board of Directors of the Mycoses Study Group Education & Research Consortium (MSGERC). He is a Fellow of the Infectious Disease Society of America and the European Confederation of Medical Mycology. He serves as editor for Microbiology Spectrum, a journal of the American Society for Microbiology. He is a scientific committee member for Clinical Microbiology & Infection, a publication of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.
