Biographical summary
Born and raised in South Florida, Dr. Quintin J. Quiñones, M.D., Ph.D. graduated from Florida Atlantic University Cum Laude with a bachelor's in chemistry. He continued his education at Duke University where he completed medical school (M.D.) and graduate school (Ph.D.) in molecular biology as part of the medical scientist training program (M.S.T.P.). Dr. Quiñones went on to complete residency in Anesthesiology, serve as chief resident in Anesthesiology, and complete fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine while at Duke University. After completing his training Dr. Quiñones joined the faculty at Duke university where he was active in clinical practice, education, and research. While at Duke, Dr. Quiñones served as the program director for the Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine (ACCM) fellowship training program and served as course director for the 4th year elective and sub-internship in Cardiac Intensive Care within the School of Medicine.
After joining the Mayo Clinic Dr. Quiñones has continued his focus on fellow, resident, and medical student education helping to lead these efforts as Vice Chair for Education in the department of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Quiñones' clinical interests include anesthesia and critical care for high-risk vascular surgery, general surgery, and solid organ abdominal transplantation, including liver transplantation, and echocardiography. In the ICU he cares for cardiac surgery, heart transplantation, and lung transplantation patients, including patients with some form of mechanical circulatory support such as: LVAD, RVAD, total mechanical heart, as well as veno-venous or veno-arterial ECMO. Dr. Quiñones research interests have been focused on understanding the role of innate immune activation and inflammation in patient recovery during the perioperative period and critical illness.
