El prolapso rectal ocurre cuando parte del recto, que es la sección inferior del intestino grueso, se desliza hacia afuera de la abertura muscular que está al final del aparato digestivo, denominada ano. Si bien el prolapso rectal puede causar dolor, rara vez se trata de una emergencia médica.

A veces, el prolapso rectal se trata con ablandadores de heces, supositorios y otros medicamentos. Pero generalmente es necesario hacer una cirugía para tratarlo.
