Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  2. chest pain or discomfort
  3. chills
  4. confusion
  5. decrease in amount of urine
  6. difficult or trouble breathing
  7. fast heartbeat
  8. fever
  9. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  10. lightheadedness, dizziness or fainting
  11. slow or irregular heartbeat
  12. swelling of the fingers, hands, feet, or lower legs
  13. unusual tiredness
  14. weight gain

Less common

  1. Constipation
  2. diarrhea
  3. headache
  4. itching skin
  5. nausea
  6. numbness and tingling of the face, fingers, or toes
  7. pain in the arms, legs, or lower back, especially pain in the calves or heels upon exertion
  8. pain or discomfort in the arms, jaw, back, or neck
  9. pale, bluish-colored, or cold hands or feet
  10. severe numbness, especially on one side of the face or body
  11. stomach pain, usually after eating a meal
  12. sweating
  13. vomiting
  14. weak or absent pulses in the legs

Incidence not known

  1. Blue-green to black skin discoloration
  2. coma
  3. decreased urine output
  4. increased thirst
  5. muscle pain or cramps
  6. pain, redness, or sloughing of the skin at the place of injection
  7. seizures
  8. sores on the skin, especially on the thighs, breasts, penis, or buttocks
  9. swelling of the face, ankles, or hands
