Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. bladder pain
  3. bleeding gums
  4. blood in the urine or stools
  5. cloudy urine
  6. blurred vision
  7. body aches or pain
  8. burning, dry, or itching eyes
  9. burning, itching, and pain in hairy areas, pus at the root of the hair
  10. burning, numbness, tingling, or painful sensations
  11. chest pain
  12. chills
  13. cough
  14. cracked lips
  15. decreased frequency or amount of urine
  16. diarrhea
  17. difficult or labored breathing
  18. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  19. difficulty in swallowing
  20. discharge, excessive tearing
  21. dizziness
  22. drowsiness
  23. dry mouth
  24. ear congestion
  25. fainting
  26. fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat
  27. fever
  28. flushed, dry skin
  29. frequent urge to urinate
  30. fruit-like breath odor
  31. headache
  32. increased hunger
  33. increased thirst
  34. increased urination
  35. itching, skin rash
  36. joint pain, stiffness, or swelling
  37. loss of appetite
  38. loss of voice
  39. lower back, side, or stomach pain
  40. mood or mental changes
  41. muscle and bone pain
  42. muscle spasms (tetany) or twitching seizures
  43. nasal congestion
  44. nausea
  45. nervousness
  46. pale skin
  47. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  48. pounding in the ears
  49. redness, pain, or swelling of the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid
  50. runny nose
  51. skin blisters
  52. sneezing
  53. sore throat
  54. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips, tongue, or inside the mouth
  55. stomach pain
  56. swelling of the face, fingers, lower legs, or feet
  57. tenderness
  58. tightness in the chest
  59. trembling
  60. troubled breathing with exertion
  61. unexplained weight loss
  62. unsteadiness or awkwardness
  63. unusual bleeding or bruising
  64. unusual tiredness or weakness
  65. vomiting
  66. warmth on skin
  67. weakness in the arms, hands, legs, or feet
  68. weight gain

Less common

  1. Burning or stinging of the skin
  2. earache
  3. painful cold sores or blisters on the lips, nose, eyes, or genitals
  4. redness or swelling in the ear

Rare

  1. Chest discomfort
  2. dilated neck veins
  3. extreme tiredness or weakness
  4. irregular breathing
  5. pain or discomfort in the arms, jaw, back, or neck

Incidence not known

  1. Dark urine
  2. general tiredness and weakness
  3. light-colored stools
  4. upper right abdominal pain
  5. yellow eyes and skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Constipation
  2. decreased appetite
  3. discouragement
  4. falls
  5. feeling sad or empty
  6. irritability
  7. loss of interest or pleasure
  8. thinning or loss of hair
  9. trouble concentrating
  10. trouble sleeping

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
