Video: Find a hallway and try some walking lunges By Mayo Clinic Staff Share Facebook Twitter Print details Walking lunges are a functional body-weight exercise designed to strengthen the hip muscles — your glutes — and the muscles around the knee. Why are they so important? Because building strong hips and legs helps prevent knee injuries. Maintaining the proper form while you do your walking lunges is important. See how to do the move, and then practice in an open space — like a hallway — that allows you to take 10 lunge steps.
