Clinical trials Below are current clinical trials.474 studies in Oncology (Medical) (open studies only). Filter this list of studies by location, status and more. Testing Nivolumab and Ipilimumab With Short-Course Radiation in Advanced Rectal Cancer Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this trial is to investigate the effect of nivolumab and ipilimumab when given together with short-course radiation therapy in treating patients with rectal cancer that has spread to other places in the body (advanced). Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as nivolumab and ipilimumab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Radiation therapy uses high energy x-rays to kill tumor cells and shrink tumors. Giving nivolumab, ipilimumab, and radiation therapy may kill more cancer cells. Pertuzumab, Trastuzumab, Hyaluronidase-zzxf and Enzalutamide for the Treatment of Metastatic Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer, TraPPer Study Rochester, Minn. This phase II trial tests how well pertuzumab, trastuzumab, hyaluronidase-zzxf and enzalutamide works in treating patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer that has spread from where it first started to other places in the body (metastatic). Pertuzumab and trastuzumab are monoclonal antibodies and forms of targeted therapy that attach to a receptor protein called human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2). HER2 is found on some cancer cells. When pertuzumab or trastuzumab attach to HER2, the signals that tell the cells to grow are blocked and the tumor cell may be marked for destruction by the body's immune system. Hyaluronidase is an endoglycosidase. It helps to keep pertuzumab and trastuzumab in the body longer, so that these medications will have a greater effect. Hyaluronidase also allows pertuzumab and trastuzumab to be given by injection under the skin and shortens their administration time compared to pertuzumab or trastuzumab alone. Chemotherapy drugs, such as enzalutamide, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Giving pertuzumab, trastuzumab, hyaluronidase-zzxf and enzalutamide may kill more cancer cells. Spinal Cord Stimulation to Treat Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to understand pain outcomes in patients with cancer who have Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN). A Study to Evaluate the Safety of the Goldilocks Procedure with Implant-Based Reconstruction Rochester, Minn., Jacksonville, Fla., Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz. The purpose of this study is to assess outcomes, satisfaction and aesthetics of two different breast reconstruction techniques (Goldilocks alone, and Goldilocks with Implant-Based Reconstruction) and compare its safety, patient satisfaction, aesthetic evaluation and complications. Effects of Cognitive Function, Post-op Fatigue and Quality of Life Comparing General vs Regional Anesthesia for Non-eloquent Brain Tumors Resection Jacksonville, Fla. The aim of the study is to create a registry to prospectively collect pre-operative, during surgery and post-operative data, questionaries will assess (at baseline before the surgery, 3-4 weeks, and at 3-6 months) cognitive function, assessed with a Mini-mental State Examination (MMSE), PROMIS Fatigue 7a form, quality of life (QoL), assessed using the SF-12 questionnaire, quality of sleep assessed using PROMIS Sleep disturbance 7a form (1 week after surgery). Genetic Testing in Screening Patients with Stage IB-IIIA Non-small Cell Lung Cancer That Has Been or Will Be Removed by Surgery (The ALCHEMIST Screening Trial) Rochester, Minn. This research trial studies genetic testing in screening patients with stage IB-IIIA non-small cell lung cancer that has been or will be removed by surgery. Studying the genes in a patient's tumor cells may help doctors select the best treatment for patients that have certain genetic changes. Study of BMF-219, in Adult Patients With Acute Leukemia (AL), Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma (DLBCL), Multiple Myeloma (MM), and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL)/ Small Lymphocytic Lymphoma (SLL) Jacksonville, Fla. The purpose of this study is to determine the optimal biologic dose (OBD) and recommended Phase 2 dose (RP2D) of BMF-219 monotherapy (Cohorts 1, 2, 3, and 4). A Study to Identify Biomarkers in the Blood, Saliva or Tissue for Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Cancer Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to identify a biomarker (or biomarkers) that is present when disease is present (i.e., at diagnosis or recurrence) and not present when disease is absent (i.e., after treatment, in HPV negative patients or in normal controls). Studying the Effect of Denosumab on Preventing Breast Cancer in Women With a BRCA1 Germline Mutation Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this trial is to compare denosumab to placebo for the prevention of breast cancer in women with a BRCA1 germline mutation. A germline mutation is an inherited gene change which, in the BRCA1 gene, is associated with an increased risk of breast and other cancers. Denosumab is a monoclonal antibody that is used to treat bone loss in order to reduce the risk of bone fractures in healthy people, and to reduce new bone growths in cancer patients whose cancer has spread to their bones. Research has shown that denosumab may also reduce the risk of developing breast cancer in women carrying a BRCA1 germline mutation. De-Escalation of Breast Radiation Trial for Hormone Sensitive, HER-2 Negative, Oncotype Recurrence Score Less Than or Equal to 18 Breast Cancer (DEBRA) La Crosse, Wis., Jacksonville, Fla., Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz., Albert Lea, Minn., Mankato, Minn. The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether breast conservation surgery and endocrine therapy results in a non-inferior rate of invasive or non-invasive ipsilateral breast tumor recurrence (IBTR) compared to breast conservation with breast radiation and endocrine therapy. The patient comes first. So the mission and research here is to advance how we can best help the patient, how to make sure the patient comes first in care. So in many ways, it's a cycle. It can start with as simple as an idea worked on in a laboratory, brought to the patient bedside, and if everything goes right — and let's say it's helpful or beneficial — then brought on as a standard approach. And I think that is one of the unique characteristics of Mayo's approach to research — that patient-centeredness — that really helps to put it in its own spotlight.
