Clinical trials Below are current clinical trials.500 studies in Oncology (Medical) (open studies only). Filter this list of studies by location, status and more. A Study to Test Nivolumab with Usual Chemotherapy Treatment or Usual Chemotherapy Treatment Alone to Treat Recurrent or Metastatic Nasopharyngeal Cancer Jacksonville, Fla. The purpose of this study is to compare the effect of adding nivolumab to the usual chemotherapy (cisplatin or carboplatin with gemcitabine) versus the usual chemotherapy alone in treating patients with nasopharyngeal cancer that has come back (recurrent) or spread to other places in the body (metastatic). Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as nivolumab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Chemotherapy drugs, such as cisplatin, carboplatin, and gemcitabine, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Giving nivolumab with the usual chemotherapy may work better than the usual chemotherapy alone in treating patients with nasopharyngeal cancer. A Study of DNA/RNA Sequencing Results on the Clinical Management of Patients with Advanced Malignancies Rochester, Minn., Jacksonville, Fla., Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz. The purpose of this study is to assess practice patterns and changes in treatment recommendations based on the results obtained from a clinically available, comprehensive next generation DNA/RNA sequencing assay. A database of paired clinical and sequencing data will also be established for future research. Study of Breast Cancer Risk Assessment in Female Patients with Benign Breast Disease Rochester, Minn., Jacksonville, Fla. The purpose of this study is to to bring molecular risk prediction for breast cancer into the clinical arena through: the establishment of a large tissue repository from a retrospective cohort of women with benign breast disease with complete and long-term clinical follow-up to identify those who developed breast cancer (cases) and those who did not (controls); the application of potential biomarkers of risk to this archival tissue set; and, the discovery of new, potentially relevant biomarkers of risk in fresh and frozen specimens of benign breast disease. A Study to Assess Clonal Diversity of Freshly Taken ESD Specimens Rochester, Minn. Inclusion Criteria: Patients with Barrett’s Esophagus (BE) or Esophageal Adenocarcinoma (EAC) that are planned for Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) treatment. Exclusion Criteria: Patients without BE or EAC or that are not planned for ESD treatment. Trans-Pacific Multicenter Collaborative Study of Minimally Invasive Proximal Versus Total Gastrectomy for Proximal Gastric and Gastroesophageal Junction Cancers Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to compare the symptoms of patients who have a MIPG to the symptoms of patients who have a MITG. Detection of Mutant Circulating Tumor (CT)Dna in Uveal Melanoma With Development of a Droplet Digital Pcr (Ddpcr) Assay Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to design, develop and assess the performance characteristics of a ddPCR assay for the detection of mutations associated with uveal melanoma. The performance characteristics of the ddPCR assay for the detection of ctDNA mutation in uveal melanoma patients will be assessed by comparing the mutation results obtained for the ddPCR assay on blood to those obtained on paired paraffin embedded tumors. Gynecologic Extramammary Paget's Disease Rochester, Minn. In addition to evaluating treatment outcomes, tissue samples and swabs will be collected as part of this study to allow physicians to better understand Extramammary Paget's Disease (EMPD). The researchers also want to learn more about the microorganisms (microbiome) that live on or near the areas of skin affected by EMPD, in order to better understand this condition. The Impact of a Geriatric Assessment in Elderly Patients with Multiple Myeloma Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the association between a baseline comprehensive geriatric assessment (cGA) and chemotherapy toxicity in the first 4 months of treatment measured by treatment-related adverse events, patient-reported outcomes (PROs), and treatment discontinuation in older patients (≥ 65 years) with multiple myeloma (MM). Multiple myeloma (MM) is a blood cancer that affects a type of white cell called plasma cell. It mainly affects older individuals and has an average age at diagnosis of 69 years. Impact of Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy on the Peripheral Blood Immune Phenotype in Operable Breast Cancer, the ENHANCE Study Rochester, Minn. The purposes of this study are to evaluate whether pre-NAC peripheral blood immune phenotypes (defined by mass cytometry) are associated with pathologic complete response (pCR) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with operable breast cancer, and to evaluate whether the baseline peripheral blood immune phenotype differs between patients with breast cancer and age-matched healthy controls. Treating Breast Cancer Patients Undergoing Trastuzumab Treatment with Carvedilol to Reduce Incidence of Heart Failure Rochester, Minn., Jacksonville, Fla., Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz. The purpose of this study is to evaluate different strategies of cardiovascular therapy with Carvedilol, aiming to reduce the incidence of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) decline and heart failure (HF) in patients undergoing curative intent Trastuzumab for breast cancer. . The patient comes first. So the mission and research here is to advance how we can best help the patient, how to make sure the patient comes first in care. So in many ways, it's a cycle. It can start with as simple as an idea worked on in a laboratory, brought to the patient bedside, and if everything goes right — and let's say it's helpful or beneficial — then brought on as a standard approach. And I think that is one of the unique characteristics of Mayo's approach to research — that patient-centeredness — that really helps to put it in its own spotlight.
