A Study of the Use of a Squatting Assist Device in Patients with Constipation Rochester, Minn. Constipation is a very common problem. Western style toilets that are nearly universal in the United States require the person to sit on the toilet. However, results from uncontrolled studies suggests that a squatting posture (as prevalent in many foreign countries) may be better at facilitating evacuation compared to a Western style commode. One uncontrolled, unpublished study suggests that a footstool improved bowel symptoms in nearly 98% of 153 constipated participants. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the benefits of a footstool on symptoms and anorectal function in constipated patients. Anorectal Pressures and Simultaneous Dynamic Imaging Rochester, Minn. Many people have constipation because they cannot defecate. However, we do not fully understand the mechanisms of normal defecation or constipation. We are trying to better understand why constipation occurs and improve the tests for diagnosing these conditions. Study to Better Understand the Development of Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD) and Related Diseases as a Step Toward Improving Disease Outcomes. Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to better understand disease development of Irritiable Bowel Disease (IBD) and related diseases as a step to improving disease outcomes. A Study to Validate DNA Methylation Markers for Universal and Site-specific Guided Cancer Detection Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to validate candidate universal and site-specific methylated DNA markers (MDMs) in DNA extracted from formalin-fixed paraffin embedded primary tumor and control specimens. A Study to Evaluate Dupilumab as a Treatment for Moderate-to-Severe, Chronic Hepatic Pruritus Jacksonville, Fla. The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential effectiveness of dupilumab in the treatment of moderate-to-severe, chronic hepatic pruritus. A Study to Evaluate the Effectiveness of a Healthy Living Weight Loss Program in Obese Patients Undergoing Bariatric Endoscopy on Weight Loss Outcomes Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to compare weight loss, improvement of comorbidities, improvement of lipid profile, blood sugar in patients undergoing endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty or intragastric balloon between patients who are in a weight loss program and those who are not. Transforming Healthcare and Outcomes for Children with Inflammatory Bowel Disease La Crosse, Wis., Mankato, Minn., Eau Claire, Wis., Rochester, Minn. The purpose is to put the information into a very large database, which can then be used to improve patient care and achieve the best health outcomes possible for children with IBD. A Study to Better Understand Why Patients Gain Weight After Undergoing Liver Transplantation Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to understanding the mechanisms of weight gain in patients following liver transplantation, action, and indicate approaches to prevent weight gain. An Expansion Study to Evaluate Dose Escalation, Safety and Tolerability of SAR444881 in Patients with Advanced Solid Tumors Rochester, Minn., Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and preliminary anti-tumor activity of SAR444881 alone and in combination with pembrolizumab or with cetuximab. The study will enroll advanced cancer patients with unresectable or metastatic disease who are refractory to or are not candidates for standard approved therapy and will be comprised of two parts - an initial "3 + 3" dose escalation phase (Part 1) with Sub-Parts 1A (monotherapy SAR444881), 1B (SAR444881 in combination with pembrolizumab) and 1C (SAR444881 in combination with cetuximab) followed by a dose optimization/expansion phase (Part 2), including Sub-Part 2A (Dose Optimization) with Cohorts A1 (SAR444881 in combination with pembrolizumab, carboplatin, and pemetrexed), A2 (SAR444881 in combination with pembrolizumab), B1 (SAR444881 in combination with pembrolizumab and later therapy), and C1 (SAR444881 in combination with cetuximab and later therapy), as well as Sub-Part 2B (Dose Expansion) with Cohort D1 (monotherapy SAR444881). Early pancreatic cancer detection Jacksonville, Fla. The primary purpose of this study is to standardize the collection of demographic, clinical, and imaging data, and biosamples for a large high-risk familial Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarinoma (PDAC) cohort at consortium clinical cancer centers, worldwide. The patient comes first. So the mission and research here is to advance how we can best help the patient, how to make sure the patient comes first in care. So in many ways, it's a cycle. It can start with as simple as an idea worked on in a laboratory, brought to the patient bedside, and if everything goes right — and let's say it's helpful or beneficial — then brought on as a standard approach. And I think that is one of the unique characteristics of Mayo's approach to research — that patient-centeredness — that really helps to put it in its own spotlight.
