Nafisseh Warner, M.D., is an anesthesiologist and pain medicine physician who provides multimodal analgesic care for patients with acute and chronic pain complaints. Apart from her clinical duties, Dr. Warner is also heavily engaged in clinical research and is a Kern Scholar in the Mayo Clinic Kern Center for the Science of Health Care Delivery. Her research interests include:

  • Characterizing patterns of postoperative opioid use after surgery
  • Assessing factors that may influence prolonged opioid prescribing, with a particular emphasis on those factors related to opioid prescribers.
  • Assessing patient reported outcomes in those with spine pain
  • Examining the relationships between chronic pain, prescription opioid use, and cognitive function in the elderly
  • Improving perioperative care for patients with complex pain histories

  • Optimization of opioid use before, during, and after surgical procedures
  • Pain management in older persons, with a focus on improving daily function while minimizing possible analgesic side effects
