Dr. Terzic earned her medical degree from the University Centro Occidental Lisandro Alvarado in Barquisimeto, Venezuela in 1987 and her Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the Mayo Graduate School, Rochester MN in 1996. She completed Residency (Clinician Investigator) in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, at Mayo Clinic in 2003. Dr. Terzic is a Consultant in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Mayo Clinic, Rochester with a joint appointment in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine and is a Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She was the Chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, at Mayo Clinic, Rochester from 2011 until 2020 and currently is the Medical Director of Cardiovascular Rehabilitation at Mayo Clinic.

As a clinician, Dr. Terzic specializes in cardiovascular rehabilitation and neuromuscular rehabilitation. Her research work has been focused in the area of regenerative medicine, stem cells biology and cellular differentiation, specifically in cardiac regeneration and cardiac rehabilitation. Dr. Terzic has reported research findings in over 90 manuscripts and textbook chapters. Her work has been published in leading journals, such as Science, Nature Cell Biology, Science Translational Medicine, as well as in specialized journals, including Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Prevention, Circulation, Circulation Research, Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Genome Biology and Stem Cells.

Dr. Terzic is an editorial board member of several prominent journals including American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Avances Cardiologicos, and Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Prevention. She has received many awards and honors including the National Association of Academic Physiatrists Distinguished Academician Award.

She is active on a number of national and international specialty societies and is recognized globally for her research and contributions to the clinical guidelines and practice in the area of cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation. Dr. Terzic has served on the Board of the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (2009-2010) and contributed to the current 2020 Guidelines for Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs. She is member of the Advisory Board of the Rehabilitation Medicine Scientist Training program (RMSTP), ad a CO-Pi of the Alliance for regenerative Rehabilitation Research and Training (AR3T), an NIH-funded resource center supporting research collaborations and educational opportunities in the area of regenerative rehabilitation medicine.
