I'm Dana Perry and I'm an abdominal transplant surgeon here at Mayo Clinic in Florida. What I really love about my job is that you give somebody a new life. Patients are struggling with the most difficult times of their lives when they're needing a new organ transplant. One of the best parts about being a patient at Mayo Clinic is the multi-disciplinary approach to patient care. We collaborate with every physician, nurse, allied health person in the hospital to take the very best care of you that we possibly can. It's inspiring to see patients improve over time and grow. It's fun to get notifications annually on updates of patients and their family members and how well they're doing and how they were able to go to the wedding or the graduation, all of the different holidays they were able to celebrate with their family that they weren't able to do in the past. The Mayo Clinic model of care is very patient-centric. The needs of the patient clearly come first. In our department, I feel like we treat every single patient as if they're a member of our family, and that is the most important thing.
