Dr. Palmer is Professor of Medicine and Consultant in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and Enterprise Dean of Mayo Clinic School of Continuous Professional Development. He holds board certification in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, and in Transplant Hepatology. He is Director of the Hereditary Hemochromatosis Clinic at Mayo Clinic, specializing in and actively performing clinical research in genetic iron overload and common gastrointestinal diseases. He serves as Associate Director for Education for Mayo Clinic's Center for Individualized Medicine. He has published over 120 peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts, book chapters, and has more than 1,000 citations in his field. He received the Karis Award from the Mayo Clinic Values Council and was elected Secretary of the Staff for Mayo Clinic Officers and Councilors in 2022. He has previously been recognized with the Distinguished Physician Alumni Award from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, and with the Mayo Brothers Distinguished Fellowship Award.
