So my name is Julio Gandhian and I'm at the urology department at Mayo Clinic of Florida. My particular area of interest is a prostate cancer and enlarged prostates or BPH. I like to perform MRI fusion biopsies to try to diagnose prostate cancer early at a stage where we can make a difference. I've had multiple family members who are physicians, including my grandfather who was actually a urologist. And that picked my interest in urology at an early age. Unfortunately, he did pass away from prostate cancer so prostate cancer is close to my heart and I always keep that in mind when I'm taking care of patients with that disease. I think we have a very unique situation here at Mayo Clinic, Florida, in that we have this collaboration where we can work as a team. And I'm basically either down the hallway from a specialist in a particular area that I might need or I'm just one phone call away from being able to speak with someone who might be a world authority on a particular disease. In an instant we have multiple specialties interacting together and coming up with a plan. I come from a long line of conversationalists in my family, some amateur comedians too, so I've always enjoyed the human interaction. And if you have that area of skill, then you can use it at the time when patients needed the most. Because obviously patients are very stressed and anxious when they come to see the physician. One of the advantages we have in urology, of course, is that we can develop these longstanding and long-term relationships with patients where they can feel comfortable coming back to the same individual to discuss things that are usually uncomfortable to discuss with just anyone. So at Mayo we have that opportunity to build long-lasting relationships where we can take care of the patients throughout their lifetime.
