Francis A. Farraye, M.D., M.S.

Dr. Farraye is a Consultant in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida where he directs the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center. Prior to relocating to Mayo in 2019, he was Clinical Director in the Section of Gastroenterology and the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at Boston Medical Center and Professor of Medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Farraye earned his medical doctorate from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and his master's degree in Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health.

Dr. Farraye has an active academic clinical practice managing patients with IBD. Dr. Farraye is a clinical investigator examining multiple aspects of the clinical management of patients with inflammatory bowel disease. A frequent speaker and invited lecturer nationally and internationally on the diagnosis and management of inflammatory bowel disease, Dr. Farraye has authored or co-authored over 450 original scientific manuscripts, book chapters, reviews, and abstracts. He co-edited the text, Curbside Consultation in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (now in its 3^rd edition) and Gastrointestinal Emergencies. His books for patients include Questions and Answers about Ulcerative Colitis and Questions and Answers about Crohn's Disease. His newest book, published in 2022 is Mayo Clinic on Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.

Dr. Farraye is a Fellow of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Gastroenterological Association, and a Master in the American College of Gastroenterology. He has served on numerous national and international committees including as a member of the American College of Gastroenterology Board of Trustees. He is the editor in chief of Inflammatory Bowel Disease Journal Scan, a weekly publication of the American Society of Gastrointestinal endoscopy. The New England Crohn's and Colitis Foundation named Dr. Farraye Humanitarian of the Year in 2003. In 2009, the American College of Gastroenterology awarded Dr. Farraye the William Carey Award for service to the college. In 2020, Dr. Farraye received the lifetime achievement award from the New England Crohn's and Colitis Foundation.
