Vidal M. Despradel, M.D., is a board-certified urologist with more than 20 years of experience. Dr. Despradel moved to the United States to fulfill his goal of becoming a urologist, after he finished his medical career in his native country, Dominican Republic.

Dr. Despradel started with a general surgery scholarship through the Tumen Foundation at The Graduate Hospital, affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Subsequently, he finished his surgical preliminary internship. He continued his residency in Urology at the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), in Richmond, VA.

Dr. Despradel started his urology career at the VA Medical Center in Salem, Virginia. There, he started the minimally invasive and endoscopic programs, performing the first laparoscopic procedures. He was also appointed Assistant Clinical Professor at The University of Virginia While working in Salem, he was member of the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross Appalachian Regional Blood Service of the Roanoke Valley.

Dr. Despradel was invited to return to his alma mater, VCU and the McGuire VA hospital, as Assistant Professor, to strengthen the minimally invasive, laparoscopic, and the cryosurgery programs. He was strongly involved in the mentoring programs for residents and medical students.

Dr. Despradel continued his profession in private practice at AnMed in Anderson, South Carolina, where he practiced for 17 years. He was involved in the education of the medical students and family practice residents. He was also appointed Affiliate Assistant Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina. He was member of the Board of Director for the Anderson Cancer Association and the Anderson Free Clinic.

In 2024, Dr. Despradel joined the Department of Urology at Mayo Clinic at Arizona, as a general urologist. He is very motivated to mentor and teach the residents and advanced practice providers.

His main clinical focus is benign and malignant diagnosis of prostatic condition, renal mass evaluation, pre transplant urologic evaluation, vasectomy and clinical management of kidney stones.

He enjoys running, hiking, music, cooking and spending time traveling with his wife.
