Dr. Breitinger is a board-certified Psychiatrist in the Division of Integrated Behavioral Health where his clinical work is dedicated to the management of psychiatric illness and substance use in the primary care setting. His work includes the management of psychiatric illness through care coordination models and direct patient care.

Dr. Breitinger also serves as co-Director of Digital Health and Platform Medicine Innovations within the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology. He has served as a member of the Telemedicine Steering Committee and Employee Wellness Benefits Design Committee. He teaches medical students and residents, and provides continuing medical education to clinicians in the delivery of psychiatric services in the primary care setting, innovation in care delivery, and psychotherapy practice amongst other topics. He conducts research on healthcare systems design, delivery, and access, with a focus on mental health, preventative care, and employee wellness. He writes for both academic and general audiences, and focuses on the improvement of mental healthcare effectiveness and efficiency.

Dr. Breitinger also serves as the Medical Director of the Jean Delores Lavins Center for the Humanities in Medicine at Mayo Clinic. The Lavins Center supports the tripartite mission of Mayo Clinic in furthering excellence in clinical practice, research, and education through deep engagement with the arts and humanities in ways that seek to rejuvenate the human spirit for patients, their caregivers, and the Mayo Clinic community.
