Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting
  2. unusual drowsiness, dullness, tiredness, weakness, or feeling of sluggishness

Incidence not known

  1. Agitation
  2. bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  3. blurred vision
  4. change in the ability to see colors, especially blue or yellow
  5. chest tightness
  6. chills
  7. confusion
  8. constipation
  9. constricted, pinpoint, or small pupils (black part of the eye)
  10. cough
  11. cough producing mucus
  12. dark urine
  13. decrease in the frequency of urination
  14. decrease in urine volume
  15. diarrhea
  16. difficulty, painful, or trouble breathing
  17. difficulty in passing urine (dribbling)
  18. difficulty swallowing
  19. discouragement
  20. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  21. double vision
  22. feeling sad or empty
  23. fever
  24. general feeling of tiredness or weakness
  25. headache
  26. hives, itching, skin rash
  27. hoarseness
  28. indigestion
  29. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  30. irritability
  31. lack of appetite
  32. loss of consciousness
  33. loss of interest or pleasure
  34. lower back or side pain
  35. muscle aches
  36. nausea
  37. nervousness
  38. overactive reflexes
  39. pain or cramping in the stomach
  40. painful urination
  41. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  42. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  43. poor coordination
  44. pounding in the ears
  45. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  46. rapid weight gain
  47. restlessness
  48. seeing double
  49. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  50. seizures
  51. shakiness and unsteady walk
  52. shivering
  53. sore throat
  54. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  55. stuffy or runny nose
  56. talking or acting with excitement you cannot control
  57. tingling of the hands or feet
  58. trembling or shaking
  59. trouble concentrating
  60. trouble sleeping
  61. twitching
  62. uncontrolled movements of the face
  63. unsteadiness, trembling, or other problems with muscle control or coordination
  64. unusual bleeding or bruising
  65. unusual weight gain or loss
  66. vomiting
  67. yellow eyes or skin

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Bloody or cloudy urine
  2. change in consciousness
  3. chest pain or discomfort
  4. cold and clammy skin
  5. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  6. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  7. difficulty or trouble breathing
  8. extreme drowsiness
  9. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  10. increased sweating
  11. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  12. irregular heartbeat
  13. lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting
  14. loss of consciousness
  15. no blood pressure or pulse
  16. no muscle tone or movement
  17. not breathing
  18. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  19. severe sleepiness
  20. slow or irregular heartbeat
  21. stopping of heart
  22. sudden decrease in the amount of urine
  23. swelling in the legs and ankles
  24. unpleasant breath odor

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

  1. Dry mouth

  1. Back pain
  2. decreased appetite
  3. difficulty in moving
  4. drowsiness
  5. false or unusual sense of well-being
  6. fear or nervousness
  7. feeling of warmth
  8. increased sweating
  9. joint pain
  10. mood changes
  11. muscle pain or stiffness
  12. redness of the face, neck, arms and occasionally, upper chest
  13. relaxed and calm
  14. sleepiness
  15. trouble getting pregnant
