Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Blurred vision
  2. burning, dry, or itching eyes
  3. burning, numbness, tingling, or painful sensations
  4. discharge, excessive tearing
  5. dry eyes
  6. dry mouth
  7. eye redness, irritation, or pain
  8. flushed, dry skin
  9. fruit-like breath odor
  10. increased hunger
  11. increased thirst
  12. increased urination
  13. lack or loss of strength
  14. nausea
  15. rash with flat lesions or small raised lesions on the skin
  16. redness, pain, swelling of the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid
  17. stomach pain
  18. sweating
  19. trouble breathing
  20. unexplained weight loss
  21. unsteadiness or awkwardness
  22. unusual tiredness or weakness
  23. vomiting
  24. weakness in the arms, hands, legs, or feet

Less common

  1. Chest pain
  2. chills
  3. cough
  4. fever
  5. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  6. thickening of bronchial secretions

Incidence not known

  1. Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  2. diarrhea
  3. itching
  4. joint or muscle pain
  5. red irritated eyes
  6. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  7. redness, tenderness, itching, burning, or peeling of the skin
  8. sore throat
  9. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Change in taste
  2. cracks in the skin
  3. decreased appetite
  4. dry skin
  5. hair loss or thinning of the hair
  6. loss of heat from the body
  7. loss of taste
  8. nausea
  9. painful blisters on the trunk of the body
  10. red, swollen skin redness, swelling, or pain of the skin
  11. scaling of the skin on the hands and feet
  12. skin blisters
  13. tingling of the hands and feet
  14. ulceration of the skin
  15. vomiting

Less common

  1. Pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site
