Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

  1. Agitation
  2. black, tarry stools
  3. bloody nose
  4. bloody urine
  5. blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  6. blurred vision
  7. cold flu-like symptoms
  8. colicky or burning stomach pain
  9. coma
  10. confusion
  11. constipation
  12. cough or hoarseness
  13. cracked lips
  14. decreased urine output
  15. depression
  16. diarrhea
  17. difficulty in swallowing
  18. dizziness
  19. fainting
  20. fever or chills
  21. general feeling of illness
  22. headache
  23. hostility
  24. increase blood pressure
  25. increased thirst
  26. irritability
  27. lethargy
  28. loss of appetite
  29. lower back or side pain
  30. muscle twitching
  31. nausea or vomiting
  32. nervousness
  33. pain in the back of throat or chest when swallowing
  34. painful or difficult urination
  35. pounding in the ears
  36. seizures
  37. skin rash
  38. slow or fast heartbeat
  39. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips, tongue, or inside the mouth
  40. stupor
  41. swelling of the face, fingers, or lower legs
  42. swollen glands
  43. trouble breathing
  44. unusual tiredness or weakness
  45. vomiting blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
  46. weight gain or loss
  47. yellow skin and eyes

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:
