Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Bladder pain
  2. bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  3. bloody or cloudy urine
  4. burning or stinging of the skin
  5. chest tightness
  6. chills
  7. cough
  8. diarrhea
  9. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  10. difficulty in breathing or swallowing
  11. discouragement
  12. dizziness or lightheadedness
  13. facial swelling
  14. fast heartbeat
  15. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  16. feeling sad or empty
  17. fever
  18. frequent urge to urinate
  19. headache
  20. irritability
  21. itching of the vagina or genital area
  22. loss of appetite
  23. loss of interest or pleasure
  24. lower back or side pain
  25. nausea
  26. pain during sexual intercourse
  27. pain or tenderness around eyes and cheekbones
  28. painful cold sores or blisters on the lips, nose, eyes, or genitals
  29. rapid weight gain
  30. sensation of spinning
  31. skin itching, rash, or redness
  32. sneezing
  33. sore throat
  34. stomach pain
  35. stuffy or runny nose
  36. swelling of the face, throat, or tongue
  37. thick, white vaginal discharge with no odor or with a mild odor
  38. tingling of the hands or feet
  39. trouble concentrating
  40. trouble sleeping
  41. unusual tiredness or weakness
  42. unusual weight gain or loss
  43. vomiting

Less common

  1. Bloating
  2. loss of bladder control
  3. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  4. stomach or pelvic discomfort, aching, or heaviness

Incidence not known

  1. Back, leg, or stomach pains
  2. black, tarry stools
  3. bleeding gums
  4. blood in the urine or stools
  5. blurred vision
  6. chest pain
  7. confusion
  8. dark urine
  9. feeling of heat, redness, or swelling of the skin
  10. general body swelling
  11. general feeling of illness
  12. mild burning, stinging, or tingling of the skin
  13. nosebleeds
  14. pale skin
  15. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  16. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  17. seizures
  18. stiff neck or back
  19. unusual bleeding or bruising
  20. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. belching
  3. blistering, crusting, irritation, itching, or reddening of the skin
  4. bloated
  5. chest discomfort
  6. constipation
  7. cracked, dry, or scaly skin
  8. excess air or gas in the stomach or intestines
  9. full feeling
  10. heartburn
  11. indigestion
  12. irregular menstrual periods
  13. muscle cramps
  14. pain in the arms or legs
  15. passing gas
  16. stomach discomfort or upset
  17. swelling or inflammation of the mouth

Less common

  1. Feeling unusually cold
  2. heavy bleeding
  3. joint swelling
  4. night sweats
  5. shivering
  6. tearing of the skin
  7. trembling or shaking of the legs, arms, hands, or feet
