Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Constipation
  2. diarrhea
  3. heartburn
  4. indigestion
  5. loss of appetite
  6. nausea
  7. pain or discomfort in the chest, upper stomach, or throat
  8. stomach pain
  9. vomiting

Less common

  1. Blurry vision
  2. dry mouth
  3. dryness, burning, itching, or irritation of the eye
  4. flushed, dry skin
  5. fruit-like breath odor
  6. increased hunger
  7. increased thirst
  8. increased urination
  9. sweating
  10. troubled breathing
  11. unexplained weight loss
  12. unusual tiredness or weakness

Rare

  1. Bloody or black, tarry stools
  2. bloody or cloudy urine
  3. bone pain
  4. chest pain
  5. chills
  6. constipation
  7. cough
  8. dark urine
  9. decreased urine
  10. decreased vision
  11. depression and thoughts of suicide secondary to skin discoloration
  12. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  13. fever
  14. frequent urge to urinate
  15. general tiredness and weakness
  16. irregular heartbeat
  17. light-colored stools
  18. mood changes
  19. muscle pain or cramps
  20. nerve pain
  21. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  22. pain in the chest, groin, or legs, especially the calves
  23. pain spreading to the left shoulder
  24. pale skin
  25. seizures
  26. severe stomach pain
  27. severe, sudden headache
  28. slurred speech
  29. sore throat
  30. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  31. stomach cramping
  32. sudden loss of coordination
  33. sudden, severe weakness or numbness in the arm or leg
  34. swelling
  35. swollen, painful, or tender lymph glands in the neck, armpit, or groin
  36. troubled breathing with exertion
  37. unusual bleeding or bruising
  38. upper right abdominal pain and fullness
  39. vision changes
  40. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
  41. yellow eyes and skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Dry, rough, or scaly skin
  2. pink to brownish black skin discoloration

Less common

  1. Discoloration of the eye, urine, stool, spit, sweat
  2. itching, skin rash

Rare

  1. Bad unusual or unpleasant (after)taste
  2. change in taste
  3. dizziness
  4. drowsiness
  5. giddiness
