Research demonstrates the link between suppressed Wnt signaling and Alzheimer's disease
A defect in the cell-signaling pathway Wnt contributes to overproduction of toxic protein in the brains of people with Alzheimer's. Low levels of LRP6 lead to a toxic buildup of amyloid and impair neurons' ability to communicate.

Loss of smell may be an early indicator of Parkinson's disease
Studies indicate that subjects with incidental Lewy body disease had a decreased sense of smell, suggesting that if they had lived longer they may have shown signs of Parkinson's. Researchers see possibilities for early screening tools.
