Research

Mayo Clinic is part of the International Perthes Study Group, a group of more than 40 pediatric orthopedic surgeons who address questions about Legg-Calve-Perthes disease through a collaborative research program.

One topic of research is an advanced form of magnetic resonance imaging, called perfusion MRI, which can help show how much blood is getting to the femoral head. This information may help assess the severity of the Legg-Calve-Perthes disease and predict how well a child will likely recover from various types of treatments.
