Mayo Clinic researchers discovered and classified autoimmune epilepsy and have contributed to new diagnosis and treatment approaches.
Researchers at Mayo Clinic's Center for Multiple Sclerosis and Autoimmune Neurology are leaders in autoimmune epilepsy research. They launched the first randomized clinical trial on intravenous immunoglobulin for treating autoimmune encephalitis, which can cause autoimmune epilepsy. Researchers also are looking for novel biomarkers and diagnostic clues to help diagnose autoimmune encephalitis. A Mayo Clinic expert is part of a team conducting a clinical trial looking at new treatments.
