Who is eligible to participate?
The Mayo Clinic Physician Health Center is available to practicing physicians including those who are temporarily restricted from practice or on leave due to a medical condition but want to resume practice.
Why choose the Mayo Clinic Physician Health Center?
The most common reasons are:
- To undergo assessment of an active medical condition that may affect the ability to practice or return to practice. This may be through an occupational assessment for your own needs or a fitness-for-duty evaluation at the request of an employer, state licensure board or monitoring board.
- For customized preventive and general medical examinations to address personal medical concerns.
Physicians who come to the Mayo Clinic Physician Health Center see a senior physician with specialized skills in evaluating and treating other physicians. This physician leads a cohesive team focused on your particular needs.
Can I come annually for appointments?
The Mayo Clinic Physician Health Center is not a replacement for primary care. You may return to follow up on specific conditions or utilize the Mayo Clinic Healthy Living Program for wellness, nutrition education, and fitness education and programs.
What does the program cost?
We bill private medical insurance for consultations, tests and procedures for those who are being seen for their own needs. Charges related to the fitness-for-duty assessment are frequently covered by a physician's employer if used to provide recommendation on the safety to practice, work restrictions, impairment or disability determination. Fitness-for-duty evaluations also are assessed an administrative fee, which allows us to coordinate:
- Collecting medical information before the appointment.
- Advance record review.
- Streamlining the itinerary.
- Expediting subspecialty evaluations.
- Visit summary and recommendations to employer, licensure board or medical review board.
- Additional administrative support.
Where is the program located?
The Mayo Clinic Physician Health Center is located at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Our team can provide accommodation recommendations for those with extended visits. For most patients, local transportation is not needed. Mayo Clinic is connected to many hotels via pedestrian subway and skyway. Most hotels offer transportation to the clinic upon request.
