When you're seen by Community Internal Medicine, your primary care provider leads a team that takes collective responsibility for your care. The team anticipates, coordinates and follows through on your healthcare needs and arranges appropriate follow-up with qualified specialists. The resulting care is personalized, coordinated, timely and effective.

Members of your team include your primary care provider, resident physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, medical assistants, medical practice secretaries and call center representatives.

You can participate in the management of your care by telling your care team when you receive services outside of Mayo Clinic. For example:

  • Notify your Mayo Clinic care team if you visit a non-Mayo Clinic Emergency Department
  • Notify your Mayo Clinic care team if you were admitted to a non-Mayo Clinic hospital
  • Ask your non-Mayo providers to send records to your primary care provider

Test results

Most results can be viewed online as soon as they are finalized. Your provider will communicate interpretation of the results and any recommendations for treatment or additional testing within seven business days of the last scheduled test. You might receive this communication in these ways:

  • A secure electronic message through Patient Online Services
  • A confidential voice message through MedVoice (a telephone-based, confidential, automated notification system)
  • A phone call from a member of your care team
