7 healthy fats to add to your diet

The more your dietary fat comes from plants, fish and nuts, the better. How many of these have you tried?

  1. Sesame oil. Use it to stir-fry vegetables for a distinct Asian flavor.
  2. Canola oil. It gets less love than extra-virgin olive oil, but has less saturated fat.
  3. Sardines. Add them to a salad or blend into a spread for a healthy snack.
  4. Lake trout. Get your omega-3s at a fraction of the price of wild-caught salmon.
  5. Almonds or walnuts. Toast at 350 F until lightly browned to draw out their flavor.
  6. Avocado. It's full of "good fats" and delicious on whole-grain toast.
  7. Ground flaxseed. Add a tablespoon to yogurt, oatmeal or salad dressing for healthy omega-3 fats.
