7 healthy fats to add to your diet
The more your dietary fat comes from plants, fish and nuts, the better. How many of these have you tried?
- Sesame oil. Use it to stir-fry vegetables for a distinct Asian flavor.
- Canola oil. It gets less love than extra-virgin olive oil, but has less saturated fat.
- Sardines. Add them to a salad or blend into a spread for a healthy snack.
- Lake trout. Get your omega-3s at a fraction of the price of wild-caught salmon.
- Almonds or walnuts. Toast at 350 F until lightly browned to draw out their flavor.
- Avocado. It's full of "good fats" and delicious on whole-grain toast.
- Ground flaxseed. Add a tablespoon to yogurt, oatmeal or salad dressing for healthy omega-3 fats.
