Benjamin J. Sandefur, M.D., M.H.P.E., is an emergency physician and medical educator based at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He currently serves as Associate Residency Program Director and Chair of Faculty Recruitment in the Department of Emergency Medicine, where he has practiced since 2012. Dr. Sandefur was appointed as an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science in 2023.

Dr. Sandefur completed his medical degree at the Mayo Medical School in 2008, followed by a residency in Emergency Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident. He earned a Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE) from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2023.

His research interests include emergency airway management, emergency electrocardiography, and medical education. Dr. Sandefur has contributed to the field through both his scholarship and his work as a medical educator. He has been recognized with several teaching awards, including the Mayo Clinic's Distinguished Emergency Medicine Clinician Award, Mayo Fellows’ Association Teacher of the Year Award, Clerkship Directors in Emergency Medicine Young Educator of the Year Award, and was the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine nominee for the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Award.
