Biographical summary
Sami Alasfar, M.D., is a board-certified nephrologist with expertise in transplant nephrology. He is also an Associate Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic School of Medicine.
Dr. Alasfar joined the transplant group at Mayo Clinic Arizona in 2022. After completing his residency and serving as Chief Resident at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, Dr. Alasfar pursued fellowships in Nephrology and Transplant Nephrology at Johns Hopkins University, completing them in 2016. Following his training, he remained at Johns Hopkins as faculty and became the Director of the Transplant Nephrology Fellowship program until 2022. In 2023, he furthered his expertise by earning a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Dr. Alasfar is actively engaged in global humanitarian efforts to enhance the care of kidney disease and transplant patients in disaster and conflict zones. In addition, he has interest in studying cardiovascular disease and kidney transplantation, antibody mediated rejection, and noninfectious complications of transplantation. He currently serves as the medical director of the deceased donor kidney transplant program at Mayo Clinic Arizona.
