Conflict of Interest Policy
The mission of Mayo Clinic is to inspire hope and contribute to health and well-being by providing the best care to every patient through integrated clinical practice, education and research.
In support of that mission, conflict of interest policies at Mayo Clinic have been developed to ensure that:
- Our patients' needs for information regarding institutional and individual conflicts of interest are met and exceeded
- Our patients' safety is ensured
- The integrity of our research and researchers is maintained
Mayo Clinic and its staff often collaborate with medically related external entities to improve patient care through research agreements, technology and know-how license agreements, consulting or board memberships, institutional partnerships, or leadership activities. The Mayo Clinic Conflict of Interest Review Board oversees all such activities. Mayo Clinic and its staff members do not receive any royalties for inventions or technology developed at Mayo and subsequently prescribed for Mayo Clinic patients.
If you have questions about your caregiver's or Mayo Clinic's external relationships, please ask your physician or other care provider, or contact the Mayo Clinic Office of Conflict of Interest Review at 507-284-0075.
In addition, Open Payments, a publicly accessible website developed by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), is a national disclosure program that promotes transparency by publishing financial relationships between the medical industry and healthcare providers (physicians and hospitals). For specific information regarding physician relationships with a commercial entity, see the resources at https://OpenPaymentsData.cms.gov.
