Psychiatry and Psychology

Overview

Specialists in Psychiatry and Psychology at Mayo Clinic provide comprehensive evaluations, diagnosis and treatment for patients with psychiatric problems. More than 80 psychiatrists and psychologists practice at Mayo. Special areas of expertise include:

  • Psychopharmacology consultations
  • Evaluation and treatment of affective disorders
  • Evaluation and treatment of anxiety disorders
  • Psychotherapy
  • Geriatric psychiatry
  • Evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including sleep apnea, narcolepsy, parasomnias and insomnia
  • Nocturnal enuresis
  • Evaluation and treatment of headaches (in consultation with the Department of Neurology)
  • Evaluation and treatment of psychophysiologic disorders (in consultation with the Department of Internal Medicine)
  • Evaluation of substance abuse in patients with dual diagnoses (psychiatric disorder and substance abuse)

The specialty offers inpatient programs at the Psychiatry Treatment Center in Rochester, Minn. This facility is located in the Generose Building which adjoins Saint Marys Hospital and has 107 licensed beds. Rochester also has a number of specialists trained in treating childhood psychiatric and psychological disorders. There are nine specialists practicing in Florida, 66 in Minnesota, and seven in Arizona.

In addition to their clinical practice many staff members conduct research and are involved in training new specialists.
