ROCHESTER, Minn. — The Rosemary and Meredith Willson Harmony for Mayo Program features musical concerts that add to the healing environment of Mayo Clinic. Each Monday in August, Mayo Clinic patients, visitors, staff and the Rochester community can gather in the Harwick Building Courtyard, 205 Third Ave. S.W., for concerts from 12:10 to 1 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the concerts will move to the Barbara Woodward Lips Atrium, subway level, Charlton Building, Rochester Methodist Hospital, 10 Third Ave. N.W.
The schedule of performances is:
Aug. 4: Listeners are invited to hear renowned mandolin and fiddle player Peter Ostroushko of Minneapolis. His most recent album, "Postcards: Travels with a Great American Radio Show," contains Ostroushko's original compositions, written mainly for tours with "A Prairie Home Companion." The CD features some of his most requested compositions from the past few years.
Aug. 11: Vicky Emerson will perform folk, blues and country music. Emerson, who was raised on a pig farm in Elmwood, Wis., now lives in New York City. This concert is one of more than 200 shows she performs annually around the country. Her latest CD, "Vicky Emerson," also features Dean Magraw, Gordy Johnson, Daniel Marcus and Steve Goold. The album was recorded at Fur Seal Studios in Minneapolis.
Aug. 18: Annie Lawler and Wheelhouse will perform an Americana mix of roots, rock and blues. The group performs cover and original songs that speak of love lost and won. In addition to Lawler on guitar and vocals, the group includes Charlie Lacy, electric, slide, lap steel and acoustic guitars; Tim Scribner, bass guitar and vocals; Miles Johnston, drums and vocals; and Tom Kochie, guitar and vocals. Lawler is originally from Rochester and lives in the Twin Cities.
Aug. 25: The Becky Schlegel Trio will perform bluegrass music. Schlegel likes to take life's experiences and turn them into engaging and unique music. She is known for her clear and expressive voice. Her most recent recording, released in June, is "For All the World to See."
Sponsored by Mayo Clinic Center for Humanities in Medicine, the Rosemary and Meredith Willson Harmony for Mayo Program is coordinated by Choral Arts Ensemble of Rochester. The program, in its 10th year of performances, is generously funded by Rosemary Willson in memory of her late husband, Meredith Willson, who wrote the Broadway musical "The Music Man." The gift is made in gratitude for the couple's care at Mayo Clinic.
