MayoClinic.com Recognized in the 12th Annual Webby Awards

Wednesday, May 28, 2008

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Mayo Clinic's consumer health information site, www.MayoClinic.com, has been recognized as an "Official Honoree" for the health category in the 12th Annual Webby Awards, an international awards program honoring excellence on the Internet.

This year's program received nearly 10,000 entries from over 60 countries and all 50 states. Fewer than 15 percent of the entries were deemed Official Honorees.

"The team at MayoClinic.com is delighted to receive this recognition," says Roger Harms, M.D., medical editor-in-chief for MayoClinic.com. "This distinction recognizes our efforts to provide evidence-based quality information and tools to help individuals lead healthier lives."

Hailed as the "Oscars of the Internet" by the New York Times, the Webby Awards recognize achievement on the Internet, including Web sites, interactive advertising, online film and video, and mobile Web sites. The awards are judged by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, a global organization that includes David Bowie, Harvey Weinstein, Arianna Huffington, AKQA Global Creative Director Rei Inamoto, Matt Groening, Jamie Oliver, Internet inventor Vinton Cerf, and RealNetworks CEO Rob Glaser.
