Philanthropy is a chapter in a diverse career that Robert "Bob" Giere is building at Mayo Clinic. Giere joined Mayo Clinic Department of Development as a development officer with responsibilities for alumni fundraising and The Doctors Mayo Society.
Giere joined Mayo in 1983. He holds graduate degrees in education and administration. Since 1988, Bob's administrative career has involved working with Mayo Medical School, Mayo School of Continuing Medical Education and Mayo School of Health Sciences, which provided many opportunities to collaborate with development staff and benefactors. This experience helped him make a speedy transition to his new position, he says.
"Mayo is all about people, and the partnership between the patient, their caregiver and the entire Mayo team. That is what I find most energizing about working here," says Giere. "The philanthropic partnership is a natural extension of what we do as an organization, and that's why I've found the process of working with patient and alumni benefactors to be very familiar."
