Memory Disorder Clinic in Florida Overview Print In the Memory Disorder Clinic at Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, Florida, a team of doctors trained in brain and nervous system conditions (neurologists) and other specialties evaluates your condition and coordinates your care. Your doctor conducts a physical and neurological examination and checks for signs of conditions that may impair your memory and thinking skills. You and your family members talk about your symptoms and medical history with your doctor. Your doctor asks you several questions and conducts tests to assess your memory and thinking abilities. These abilities also are called cognitive skills. Your doctor also may have you undergo several tests to rule out conditions that may be causing your symptoms. Tests may include: Mental status and neuropsychological tests. Blood tests. CT scan. MRI. Position emission tomography scan, also called PET scan, or single-photon emission computerized tomography, also called SPECT. Support groups for caregivers also are available for families and caregivers. Research includes studying brains obtained after autopsy of people with Alzheimer's disease or related conditions to evaluate and understand these conditions.
